Party for Socialism & Liberation Holds Townhall Meeting in Cabbagetown
ATLANTA — The Party of Socialism & Liberation held a town hall meeting at the Cabbagetown Community Center to discuss grievances regarding the start of President Trump’s tenure and to spread awareness of the Socialism Party.
On January 26th, organizers of the Party of Socialism & Liberation Atlanta chapter gathered to conduct a meeting to discuss the start of the Trump Presidency. As an organization to spread socialist ideas, they discussed their problems with the actions of both the democratic and republican parties, while offering a third option that can give individuals who feel disenfranchised a voice. The message was clear with chants of, “No Trump, No KKK, No Racist USA,” filling up the room and posters on the wall stating, “Racism is the symptom, Capitalism is the disease, Socialism is the cure.”
In a conversation with 7-year organizer Monica Johnson, she stated that the goal for the party over the next few elections is to, “make sure more people know about socialism,” and to, “undo the damage that McCarthyism has done to the socialist movement.”
The Party of Socialism & Liberation Atlanta plans to continue holding meetings and attending protests to further gather the attention of those who fall between the cracks of the two-party system.
